Admission to Bintulu International School, which is an English medium School, is open to expatriate and Malaysian families. BIS is committed to providing quality education where students seek to achieve personal success through a challenging and diverse learning environment.

In order to achieve these standards of academic distinction and social global awareness and integration, BIS keeps the school population low. Class sizes are limited to 20 students and the student-teacher ratios are also kept low to allow the following benefits to take place –

Admission to Bintulu International School is selective and all admissions are strictly by entrance assessment and interviews.

Students are normally admitted to School at the beginning of the school year which starts in September, although admission can take place throughout the academic year. The exceptions to this rule are for Years 10 & 11. There is no direct admission into Year 11 and this is because of the preparation required for the IGCSE Examinations which is a 2 year programme beginning in Year 10. Admission to Year 10 is only available in September and not throughout the year.

Students seeking admission must undergo an Entrance Assessment which involves not only written tests, but also interviews with one or more senior members of the teaching staff. The Entrance Assessment will normally take 2 school days to complete.

Depending upon the student's performance and subject to the availability of places, an offer of admission to BIS will be made between 5 to 7 working days.

It is essential, for all families considering BIS as a possible school for their child, to know that BIS is not equipped to handle children that have special educational needs as there is no Learning Support Unit.

Each application for admission is carefully considered to make sure that BIS is able to offer the correct and proper learning environment for its school community.

All requests for admission must first be directed to the Admissions Officer.
